Old Man Tree....

Old man tree,
with leaves of green, brown & gold
you were so small, when your face last saw the ground.

Now children play beneath your feet
where as once you played below others.

I wonder, do you still remember the old days ?
How did you survive the huntsman's axe
or all of those fires that killed your kin ?

From old Ents, to new Children Of The Forrest,
your life has seen them all,
too many wars & deaths
and too few peaceful years & births.

Old man tree,
I remember climbing you
when I was small & you seemed so big.

Now, I'm old & can not climb
& you are even taller.
Your children will grow
& my children will have children of their own.

Old Man tree,
I thank you for a memory.
May your bark be ever brown
& your leaves ever green.

Just a bit of fun.... until next time...

Deep Purple & "Hello" Romania.. Ho-hum !!

Greetings World's !!

It's another Tuesday - and we've been into town, to do some shopping & stuff like that. It's bloody cold outside - I was frozen, just going around the supermarket !! Thankfully I managed to get the car warmed up really quickly, so that was a bonus !! I even had a hot drink when I came home - very un-usual for me !! Oh well....

Right - as I type, B (My Wife & Dearest Friend) is sat a few feet to my left, checking out how much Ian Gillan is worth (?!!) I  will tell you why in a moment..... As for the rest of the family - ME is coming over later, to have supper with us. M is doing a work party, carting type of thing tonight.... so she is coming to spend some time with us !! As always - it will be great to see her again !!

Oh - before I forget... congrats to Tim Peake, for getting successfully get into space today !! Hopefully I've spelt his name right ?! Just remember Helen Sharman did it first for team GB, a goodly number of years ago !! Hopefully, I've spelt her name right as well.... but, she does seem to have been overlooked in all of the fun & games today !! She was watching the launch tho' - so the BBC did have her on there - darn right too !!

Ok - why Ian Gillan ?!

I ordered a live set, by Deep Purple - yesterday - and it came in the post this morning !! That was quick !! Anyhoo - I'm playing the DVD & B was surprised to see how old the band looked.... there is a good reason for that !! Ian Gillan (or so I'm told) is 70 this year & worth over £200 million. Lets put it this way - at 70 & worth that much, he doesn't need to perform on stage, for the cash, at least !!

As people know - if you've read my words before, I like listening to music, not so much watching a band play it, on a DVD or whatever....... with the possible of Lynyrd Skynyrd & Molly Hatchet... but, I put the DVD in & we're (kind of) listening/watching that, as I type. It's all good - lots of oldies & goodies, to keep me happy....

The Tracks are:

  1) Highway Star
  2) Into The Fire
  3) Hard Loving Man
  4) Vincent Price
  5) Strange Kind Of Woman
  6) Contact Lost
  7) The Well Dressed Guitar
  8) Hell To Pay
  9) Lazy
10) Above & Beyond
11) No One Came
12) Don Airy's Keyboard Solo
13) Perfect Strangers
14) Spacetruckin'
15) Smoke On The Water
16) Green Onions/Hush
17) Black Night

Uli Jon Roth joins the band for 'Smoke On The Water' - as yet, I've not got that far.... should be good, a great guitarist, if ever there was one !! I can't believe it came so quick.... well down Mr Postman !!

I forgot - the Cd/DVD is called 'From The Setting Sun' and was recorded at Wacken in 2013 - now there's a place I would like to go to one day.... he says half joking !! Maybe one day - unlikely tho'....

Right - I must away.... things to do & stuff like that. We've sorted out 3 more boxes of stuff, from the spare room... and there are several more to go !! It's a shame J said to get rid of it - oh well.... it's his stuff & his choice. We could of stored it for him - but he decided otherwise... nevermind.....

I thank you all, for logging in & reading my words.... I hope you're all doing Ok & a big "Hello" to my Romanian reader - it's great to know you logged in & read my words.... until next time...

Bye Bye

"one last thought....." Ho-hum...

Greeting's !!

It's another Monday & it's not the best of days.... weather-wise. We went into town, a little earlier & it was a little mizzly. That's a cross between drizzling & muggy. Mind you - I stayed in the car - we only had to go into the bank, sooooo B did the honours !!

Anyhoo - we're both home now. Neither of us had a very good night, both feeling poorly, so we're having a quiet couple of hours. We plan on doing the grocery shop tomorrow, sometime. Not 100% sure exactly when - I guess that will depend on how well we feel in the morning !!

B is keep ing herself going, by doing a bit of housework.... me, I'm just sat here, at the computer & listening to music. More of that later. First - B's fortune at the craft fair !!

All seems to have gone well.... and she sold a goodly part of her stock...... so all of the long hours, making stuff, seems to have paid off - depending how you cost things out !!

As she was doing it all, mostly for the fun of doing it, well - she came home with quite a profit. If you take into account, the time she took to make things.... well, we won't go there !!

In the end... she was happy & there will be more cash, for another trip to the material shop, that we found a few weeks back + any other place she wants to go & buy some new stuff. It'll be down to where she wants to go really !! She did well..... and that's a fact !!

At the end of the day, ME joined her - at the hall - that was a little surprise !! She came here first & then went to the hall, when I explained where B was. It was a little company..... plus a bit of good luck.... to explain !!

Not only did B win the envelope prize - she (or ME - not sure which) won the raffle as well !! B would admit - she never wins anything, sooooo to win 2 prizes in one afternoon is really good !! Bless her - I'm glad she had a good time & sold some stuff !!

Yesterday, was a bit of a catch-up day...... some rest & a bit of a tidy up, after the madness that proceeded the craft fair. We did consider going to Church.... but, to be blunt, Saturday night was not the best one I've ever had, sooooo !! I was glad just to chillaxe at home, for a few hours.

Add Saturday night, to last night & things can only get better. Another night playing the Game Of Thrones will send me doo-alley !! I would just like a night, where I get a full 8 hours sleep, that would be nice !! Oh well.... life goes on & on....

Changing the subject... the NFH is still being a pain - but has given us something to smile/laugh about today. She has made complaint, after complaint, about how people drive in our little Close... yet....

On one occasion, she has driven into a parked car.... which we had a good smile about..... but, last night, despite all of her moaning, she made our day (night/day ?)..... She forgot, to put her parking brake on & her car crashed into her brand new garage door !! Not only did the door need to be fixed, but she has put a lovely dent in her posh car !!

I'm the first to say, I'm no Saint - but she has made me smile & that's a fact !! She should remember the old "let him throw stones" thingy.... it all comes back to bite you in the end !!

Right - 'The Music Of The Moment'...... I seem to have taken to giving it it's own title section - "why not ?" !! Why not indeed !!

It's an tape of mine - which I recorded years ago & simply goes by the name of 'Music tape 6'. As you can guess - there were 5 before it - only one of which survives (I think) to this day !! Anyhoo - the tracks are:

Side A

1) Fanfare For The Common Man - ELP
2) Tie Your Mother Down - Queen
3) Heart Of The Sunrise - Yes
4) Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who
5) Burn - Deep Purple
6) You Keep On Moving - Deep Purple
7) Come & Go Blues - Allman Brothers Band
8) Wild Dogs - Tommy Bolin

Side B

  1) Southern Man - Neil Young
  2) C'est Vie - ELP
  3) '39 Queen
  4) Long Distance Runaround - Yes
  5) I Know What I Like - Genesis
  6) Brighton Rock - Queen
  7) Can't Loose What You Never Had - Allman Brothers Band
  8) Sweet Dream - Jethro Tull
  9) Soldier Of Fortune - Deep Purple
10) Still You Turn Me On - ELP

I've put the above onto Cd & it came out really well... better than I expected really !! Heck - I've written about this before, but it was just an old tape, that I did for playing in the car - to put it onto Cd was just a bit of indulgence on my part.... fun tho' !!

Something else, that was a bit of an indulgence, was the following......

The battle rages on,
at the very threshold of my life,
I know that these few final hours,
have been dearly purchased.

Yet my resolve has not waned.

I can not hope to save myself,
but I can hope, that one last insight,
one last thought, before I die,
may prevent this happening to another.

Every time, that I have to have a big surgery - or a small one, for that matter - I write a few lines, for B to find...... these were the lines I wrote last time. Ok - a bit of an indulgence on my part, but.... !! I wrote them down, on the day of my surgery, at 5 minutes past midnight - it's all good !!

Right - I better be on my ways... episodes of 'Farscape' to watch & time to listen to some more music !! As always, I thank you all for logging in & reading my words.... what are you all listening to, as you read, I wonder ?! Let me know, I would be very interested to know !!

Best go - my thanks to my reader in Russia.... I'm glad to know you're logging in - what are you listening to ? Let me know - maybe we share the same taste in music.... until next time...

More Dream Theater... Ho-hum

Hello again World's !!

It's a warm, but wet Saturday, here in England's South-West...... I'm staying in the house, for as long as I can - it looks too nasty outside for my liking !! Nevermind - the music is loud & warm.... ho-hum !!

A big "Hello" to my Russian reader.... you've read a few of my words, over the last week, sooooo, I hope you have found them interesting ?! As I used to write - one day, I will write something worth reading !! Oh well..... it's good to know you're out there !!

AS I type, I'm home alone..... B has, or is, doing another craft fair. This time, it's here in the village. If I look out of the bedroom window, I could probably see the roof of the village hall, where it's being held. This is her 2nd fair, so hopefully she is having a good time. Heck - hopefully they're having some customers !! It would be very boring - to sit there all afternoon & have nobody show up !!

As for the rest of the family... well, we saw ME a few days ago - when we went to the house & dropped off some cash (B had bought some stuff & wanted to pay our Daughter as soon as she could) & I'm not really sure when we see the munchkin again. I guess it will depend on her work & when they have some time to themselves.

I do have Star Trek model for M... nothing special, but I must remember to give it to them, when they are next around. Bless them - I really love those guys !!

As for J - our Son... well, I've heard nothing from him, in quite a few months, sooooo I have nothing to report there !! I'll just work on the knowledge, that he still hates my guts & have done with it. One thing is for sure - he ain't going to be coming here for Christmas...... that boat sank, just after the bridge was burnt !! Oh well..... life is good !!

It's 3pm & I'm completely knackered.... it feels like I could sleep for a week !! As I wrote, while I was in the hospital - "half the World is asleep - unfortunately, we're not in that half" !! Nevermind.... I'll try & catch up tonight..... that would be good. There is nothing so bad, as waking up knackered....

I wrote a lot of stuff down, while I was in the hospital..... like "there are 2 of you - 1 that kills & 1 that loves".... that came out of listening to the 'Apocalypse Now' movie s/t !! Heck - it gets boring in the hospital - sooooo listening to the complete 'AN' soundtrack helped pass a few hours away !!

As did listening to the complete BBC versions of 'The Hobbit' & 'The Lord Of The Rings' radio plat type things. It's quite amazing how well, those versions are done !! All the acting & dialogue, really brings the story into your imagination....... makes it feel almost real !!

I did enjoy listening to 'Rendezvous With Rama' - the old Issac Asimov story, which the BBC also did as a type of radio play. That was really interesting, as I was completely knackered & wanted something to "fall asleep" to. However - it was sooooo good, I listened to the whole 2 hours of the thing & was more awake, at the end, than I was at the beginning !! It gave me my 2nd wind, so to speak !!

Going back nearly 30 years - when I was much younger - if I couldn't sleep, I would put the headphones on, turned down to just below deafening & blast a whole bundle of stuff, into my head !! One night, I played 5 or 6 Bruce Springsteen albums, end to end & then went out for a coffee, to where a friend worked......

Now a days - I do not drink coffee, nor is my friend, a friend anymore......... He lost that title, when he knocked at the door, about 7am and asked to use a bed, as he had picked up a girl, the previous night. When I said no - mainly as the guy had a "Wife" at home - he got really pissed with me.... moaning about being let down by a friend etc etc !! Oh well.... he's no longer a friend & he still owes me cash, nevermind.... life goes on !!

Right - "The Music Of The Moment" !!

As I've typed, I've been listening to Dream Theater's 'Live At Budokan' 3 Cd set.... I'm on the last Cd at the moment & I've enjoyed playing it all the ways thru'. It was one of the earliest DT live albums I ever had - still a good one tho' !! The tracks are:

CD 1

1) As I Am
2) The Dying Soul
3) Beyond This Life
4) Hollow Years
5) War Inside My Head
6) The Test That Stumped Them All

CD 2

1) Endless Sacrifice
2) Instrumedley
3) Trial Of Tears
4) New Millennium
5) Keyboard Solo
6) Only A Matter Of Time

CD 3

1) Goodnight Kiss
2) Solitary Shell
3) Stream Of Consciousness
4) Disappear
5) Pull Me Under
6) In The Name Of God

Most of this stuff - the tracks - are from the 'Train Of Thought' Cd.... the first album I ever bought by the band. It's the one I bought in Cornwall - which I kind of wrote about a couple of days ago - along with 'The Datsuns' Cd.

It's a great album & served me really well, as an introduction to the band's live out-put !! It was released in 2004.... over 10 years ago..... 2 things from that. (1) I didn't realise it was that old & (2) It's been that long since we had a proper holiday !! Must do something about that..... maybe soon !!

Right... I must sign off for today. ME has arrived, so I need to put the kettle on for my Daughter. I thank you all, for logging in & reading my words.... wherever you all live, I hope the World is treating you well.... until next time....

Bye Bye

Status Quo & other love songs.....

Well "Hi" again World's !!

It's another Friday, here in England.... I guess, it could already be Saturday with you - depending where you live !! Oh well... whenever you read my words, I hope you're all having a good day !!

We're both here today... B is upstairs doing some crafty type of stuff, in preparation for another "craft fair" - which is happening tomorrow, here in the village. I don't know much about it really. I know B is working like crazy, to get things ready & I know it's here in the village...... beyond that, I know nothing about it !!

I'm not sure how many things, she has ready to sell..... but, it seems to be quite a lot !! Bless her heart, she really does enjoy doing stuff with her hands. I would say, that she enjoys doing craft stuff, almost as much as I enjoy listening to music !! Ok - there is no comparison, between the 2.... but.... you might get the idea !!

As it's a Friday.... I've just had my 3rd trip of the week, to the local Dr's surgery, to have my dressings changed - you might have heard the screams, from where you live !! I know it's 3 times a week - but, I don't think I will ever get used to having the sticky stuff, taken off my back !! A very annoying pain, to put it mildly !!

Anyhoo - that was about 30 minutes ago & now I'm home, listening to an old Gov't Mule tape..... It's from one of the 'Mountain Jam' concerts (not sure which one) and the guys have just gone thru' '1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be)' straight in Zeppelin's 'No Quarter' - all of which took about the best part of the time, that we've been home !! Not too bad at all !!

Going back to yesterday.... I mentioned I was home alone - while B went out for lunch. Well, when she came home, she brought with her 'The Definitive Hits'...... Status Quo's new-ish 3 Cd set !! I had seen it, in the supermarket, a day or 2 back, sooooo B bought it for me, bless her !!

I'm not going to list the tracks - mainly as there are 54 of them !! But the whole set starts with 1968's 'Picture Of Matchstick Men' right thru' (what, I'm guessing) are all of their singles & better album tracks - finishing with 2014's acoustic version of the starting track !!

It's a great collection of stuff & I'm going to enjoy listening to it, either on the Mini Egg - or thru' the Bose, here in the house !! Life is good & that's a fact !!

Right - I better be on my ways.... I really am going to have to make a start on clearing off my computer desk !! I'm fast running out of space on the thing.... such is life, especially when I don't clear things away, as & when I use them !!

Sooooo - with Status Quo blasting out of the speakers, I will sign off, for today. I might write again over the weekend, I'm not really sure - time will tell, so....... until next time...

Bye Bye

'Snakes & Arrows' & other stuff....

Greetings World's !!

I'm sat here with the curtains to our back door open.... and boy o' boy, is there ever a draft coming thru' the & into the homestead !! So - I hear you ask, "Why not shut the curtains ?" - well.... I'm glad you asked !!

In the next couple of hours, I've got a man coming to fix some new draft excluding stuff & I've got everything ready for his visit. Ok - I know I could close the curtains, until he gets here..... but, to be honest, I can't be bothered - after all, it's only a bit of cold air & I've not got the heating on, or anything like that, sooooo.....

Anyhoo - I'm home alone, for a couple of hours. B has gone into town, to attend her Carers Group Christmas Lunch !! I think it starts about 12 noon... so, she will be there in plenty of time. Hopefully, they're all have a good time !!

She left about 15 minutes ago.... so, on the ways, she is going to put some fuel into the old car & get a few things that - as usual - we forgot yesterday !! It wouldn't be the same, if we got everything, in one go - when we go shopping !! Nevermind......

I've just come off the 'phone, with my friend in Bristol - a great guy, who I first me at one of the record fairs I went to, many Moons ago !! It's great to catch up !!

Right - the music of the moment.... that's by Rush & it's the 'Iron Angels' bootleg. The tracks are....

Right, I must be on my ways.... for some reason, I'm very tired this morning !! Mind you - I woke up really early this morning, sooooo that's probably why !! As hard as I tried, I couldn't get back to sleep.... life is good, all the same !!

So, with the man on his ways, to do the draft excluding, I will close this down... I'm sorry it's kind of short, but - as always - I thank you for logging in & reading my words.... until next time...

Supermarket callers !!

Hi again everybody.....

It's a cold but dry Wednesday, here in England's South-West corner...... it's actually 'brass monkey' weather & you may want to look up the meaning of that term !! Lets just say, it's blooming cold & have done with it !!

Looking out of the front window, I can see the sea & the beach.... not that I'm going anywhere near the place !! But - I can also see the primary school, just a few hundred yards away & the little ones are outside, having some sort of lesson - they must be bloody freezing !! They're jumping up & down, on the spot.... so, either they've been very naughty, or it's a PE lesson of some sort....... it still seems cruel to have them out in the cold tho' !!

Anyways - 'The Family'

As I type, I'm home alone...... B was here a second or two ago - but, she seems to have gone over to a neighbour's house. The last time I saw here, I was on the 'phone & she had a Christmas card in her hand, sooooo I'm guessing she has gone to deliver that, not really sure !!

Actually, she has just come back - I was right, she was over a neighbour's house, taking over a Christmas card.... I wish she had said - I would of known where she was !! Oh well... life is good !!

This morning, we paid a quick visit to the M & M's house.... ME was home. She showed me the baby's room - it's looks really good !! Congratulations guys, you've worked really hard to get that all ready for the big day - even if it is 2 months away, give or take a freckle !! Bless all 3 of you !!

We were in town, to pay some bills & buy a top up of food & stuff... you know, the usual kind of grocery shop !! It came to just shy of £100 - but, what the heck, we have to eat & stuff.... well, from time to time at least !!

I was very good tho' - I avoided buying any Cd's... well, just a spindle of blanks, to use on the computer. I was tempted to pick up a 3 Cd set by Status Quo - which seems to have nearly all of their singles on it. I might buy it, at a later date.... not today tho' - I had too many bills to pay !! I'm pleased to say - apart from any that have just come in - I am now payed up on everything !! That's a very rare moment !! Oh well....

Staying with music - I'm listening to Blue Floyd's 'Live At Birch Hill' 3 Cd set.... I've listed the tracks before, sooooo I'll skip them today. But - I've been playing The Who's 'Join Together' 2 Cd set !! I seemed have their stuff ready to play, on the Mini Egg & it all went from there really.

For those who don't know, it's a live set - from back in either the early 90's - or maybe a bit later..... I can't really remember !! Cd 1 is a complete run thru' of 'Tommy'.... so I'm going to assume that most of you know all of those tracks & go right to Cd 2 !! Those tracks are:

  1) Eminence Front
  2) Face To face
  3) Dig
  4) I Can See For Miles
  5) A Little Is Enough
  6) 5:15
  7) Love Reign Over Me
  8) Trick Of The Light
  9) Rough Boys
10) Join Together
11) You Better, You Bet
12) Behind Blue Eyes
13) Won't Get Fooled Again

It's a really good live set - mainly as it covers sooooo many different tracks !! Most of The Who's live sets follow the same pattern - this one is a bit different.... well, I think so, at least !!

We also went to the library, to check out their Cd sale..... I came home with another copy of 'Lulu' by Lou Reed & Metallica + 'Are You Experienced' by Jimi Hendrix. They were only 50p each, sooooo !!

Right - why the above title..... simple really. Today, in the supermarket, the number of times I had to ask people to let me thru' - because they were on their mobiles was stupid !! Please remember folks.... there are wheelchair users out there, who need a bit of space to get around the various rows of shelving.

That's made almost impossible, if you are stood there, on the 'phone, talking to the Lord knows who, about something or nothing !! Come on folks - how often do you need to call someone ?! Just because you have a mobile, you don't have to use it constantly !! It's no joke - when I'm stuck behind you & all you're doing is gossiping about something & nothing.... it could wait, just get out of the bloody way !!

Ok - that's my moan of the day... now I must be off & close this post down. Blue Floyd are just coming to an end.... so, it's about the right time to stop !! I've got nothing to do - just watch TV & chillaxe - but, it sounds good to me !!

Sooooo - as always, I thank you for your time, for logging in & reading my words. As always - if you want to leave a comment, please do - good or bad, I won't be offended - I'm too old & ugly for that..... until next time...

Bye Bye
