Joe B & a bad back !! Ho-hum....

Greetings World's !!

I hope you are all doing well, this fine Thursday morning.... I think it's a Thursday ?! Nevermind.... it's really bright & - thankfully dry - outside today. After all the months of rain & crap, it's nice to be able to look out, way off to my left & see the sea, blue & calm !!

Mind you - out on the window ledge, our oldest cat "Smudge" is looking back at me, in the hope I might let him back inside !! I might do that, in a while, but not just yet. He has probably been inside for most of the night, so.... a bit of fresh air will do him good !!

I think most of the 4 cats are outside, at the moment. I saw "Archie" & "Pippin" out on the back lawn, a while ago, so..... that only leaves "Merry" & I know I let him out !! They do have ways of finding their ways back into the house, so any of them might be up on the beds, by now !!

Oh well....... enough of the cats....

The family are all out, at the moment. B went out to a meeting, in town, a while ago & ME is with boyfriend M, after a night out, in Cardiff, seeing one of their favourite comedians, Russel Howard. I think that's what the guy is called, I'm not 100% sure !!

I know they are both out, again, tonight - to see someone else. I've no idea who that might be, but - as long as they are happy - I really don't mind !! Both of them are on a weeks holiday, so.... they should be having fun !!

That just leaves J, who is still over in Wales..... as far as I know, he is doing pretty good !! I had an e-mail from him, a few days, or more, back & from that, I get the impression he is Ok !! I would like to think, if he needed anything, he would let us know....... but..... !!

So, with everyone out, that just leaves me, home alone !! I don't mind. I've done the dishes, from last night & had a tidy around the rec room, so.... that, hopefully, will save B a bit of time later !!

We have a guy coming around, from The Church, later - so, I think B wanted to do a bit of "extra" cleaning up, just incase the guy looks around !! Heck - as with anyone, if they visit, they must take us, as we are !! When we visit people - well, we don't look about too much...... it's their home & it's up to them how they live !!

As for the music of the moment - it's The Rolling Stones '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' !! I'm playing the soundtrack of 'Apocalypse Now - Redux' and that bit of music was on it a short while ago. I really enjoy this recording - it came out well !!

I was playing a Cd, yesterday... or maybe the day before, by Joe Bonamassa & I realised, it was one of those albums, that has had an effect on me...... to explain !!

A friend of mine, recorded it, at a concert in 2008. I won't give away too much.... but, it was a fairly local gig & before (in my mind) JB got himself "promoted" to the bigger halls...... the tracks are:

CD 1

1) Bridge To Better Days
2) Walk In My Shadow
3) So Many Roads
4) Mountain Time
5) Another Kind Of Love
6) Sloe Gin
7) Ball Peen Hammer
8) Don't Burn Down The Bridge

CD 2

1) Woke Up Dreaming
2) Django Medley
3) One Of These Days
4) Asking Around For You
5) High Water
6) You Upset Me Baby

At the time, I had never anything by the guy - so, this recording was the first time I had had that pleasure !! You know my views on bootlegs.... don't buy them, Ok !! But - since hearing this show, I've bought everything the guy has released !! Especially high on my list of favourites, have to be the live shows he has put out... from The Royal Albert Hall' - right thru' to his more recent 'Acoustic Night..' 2 Cd set !!

You must get a chance, to hear this guy play - you will not be let down !! At some point, I'll give you all a better run down, on his various albums - but, not today.... I need to go & have a rest. I think I did a little bit too much earlier & my bloody back is letting me know about it all now !!

Anyhoo - I will away.... I know this is only a short post, but..... can't be helped today !!

I thank you all for logging in & reading my (few) words...... until next time...

Bye Bye

The Old Grey Whistle Test & other stuff....

Greetings World's !!

It's a very bright & Sunny day, here in England.... it has made a change, these past few days, to have some dry weather !! After what has seemed like months & months of rain, to actually have a bright spell is brilliant !!

I've just sent an e-mail to Lady V & Sir J  "Hi guys" in America.... and, altho' it has not been very good, for those with water in their homes, the "level" are looking like a massive lake !! Going back a few centuries, the whole area looked like it does now - with water everywhere and islands sticking out of it. Now - in 21st century, nature has taken back what it used to rule over...... leaving people to pick up the pieces of their lives !!

Oh well...... it's a very special day, here in the Clan's household !! ME has reach her 23rd birthday & - if all goes to her & boyfriend M's plans, this will be her last birthday at home !! As mentioned before - the two of them are in the process of buying their own place.... so, from here on in, she will be waking up in a different place, on her birthdays !!

As I type, B is behind me, cooking & baking up some treats for a birthday tea !! The "M & M's" have gone out shopping today, so it's given My Wife & Dearest Friend a chance to do a couple of surprises - which hopefully will go down well, a bit later on tonight !!

So - as B is here & ME has gone out.... that just leaves our Son, J.... who is over in Wales, doing his Uni course !! "Hi" J - I hope you're well & happy ?!

As for me.... I'm sat here listening to a 5 Cd mish-mash of stuff, that was released under the banner of 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'. If you've never heard of it - go onto the internet & check it out...... it, for me, was a brilliant TV show, that the BBC used to show, "way back when"......

In a nut shell, it used to show bands, that normally would never get a look in, as far as regular TV stations went !! Also - being as it was a very long time ago - there were only 4 (maybe 3) TV stations on air, at that time, here in England !! So - it was one of those shows that was a "must see" at the time, to keep up to date with various bands & what was new etc etc !!

One of the "classic"  shows - for me at least - was the Lynyrd Skynyrd broadcast, from November 1975. I had seen the band, the previous week - so, to see them on the "box" playing some of the tracks, that I had heard the week before was - in those days - pretty good !!

At the time, I had made a recording, from the TV speaker, onto a cassette (I think).... which, looking back, was really crap !! Then - at some point, I bought a bootleg Lp of the broadcast..... and, many more Moons later, the band released it officially on a DVD !!

The tracks are:

1) Double Trouble
2) I Ain't The One
3) Call Me The Breeze
4) I Got The Same Old Blues
5) Every Mother's Son
6) Sweet Home Alabama
7) Free Bird

Ok - I know it's only 7 tracks, but..... !! It was just brilliant to have a live copy of them !! As always, don't pay for bootlegs..... buy the official stuff instead !! I know I bought the Lp - but, that was sooooo long ago.... I've learnt the error of my ways !! The official release is on the 'Deluxe Edition' of the bands 'Gimme Back My Bullets' Cd..... which, I think, came out in, or around, 2006..... it's well good !!

I won't bore you all, with the tracks on this 'OGWT' set, that I'm listening to.... mainly as there are about 100 of them & I can't be bothered to list them !! Take my word for it - there are bands from A-Z on the thing, so.... !!

I've mentioned before - how I've done these collections of stuff, all labelled as 'Bust A Gut....' something or another. Well - I'm going to do another one.... but, for the first time, I'm going to do them as an iPod collection. What's sooooo great about that ? Well, nothing at all really..... but, instead of putting stuff, onto Cd & then putting them onto the Mini Egg (my iPod) - I've decided to save the Cd's !! I would put it on the egg anyhoo - so, why not !!

I think there are about 30,300+ tracks, actually on the Egg.... so, I'm thinking I'll delete some of those & make the space for the new ones. If nothing else, it'll give me something to concentrate on & keep my mind off the streets !! I'll let you know how I get on....

Right, my plans for today.... well, very little & few between really. I'll probably sit back & listen to some more of these Cd's - at the moment, The Pogues 'Dirty Old Town' is playing - and maybe have some of ME's birthday cake, in a while !! It's hard to believe she has reach 23 !! Oh well...... life goes on & on !! Unfortunately, when she was really little, I was working 50 or 60 hours a week, trying to earn some money.... and, I missed a lot !! It didn't put any extra cash in the bank...... but, nevermind how little cash we had, at least I tried my best to put it there !! Oh well....

I'm off now.... I thank you all for taking the time to log in & read my words, from America, thru' Europe & over to Russia & beyond.... I thank you.... until next time.....

Bye Bye

Freedom of speech........ !!

Greetings World's !!

How has your day gone ? It's a bright & - thankfully - dry day, here in the wilds of England !! I stuck my head, out thru' the back door, a while ago..... our lawns are just mud !! Honestly.... it's going to take a few weeks of dry weather, to even get these things back together !!

Yesterday - or maybe the day before - B said we would get one of those lawn loungers, so I could go outside, in the Summer & just sit back & "relax". Now, I agree, the idea is great - but.... we need some Sunshine, to dry things up a bit first !! Oh well.....

My idea, for a "New Year Resolution" was to get out, into the garage & really get into the junk out there & start back on the whole model railway kick. It's something I used to enjoy doing a lot..... laying out the track & stuff.... and getting the trains to go around. But - I've not built one (a layout) for some years now, so it seemed like a great thing to do, this year. After the crap of the last 9 months - going out & getting my head into the whole thing !!

But - just sitting here, with a hole in my back & the pain that goes along with that.... well, the model making thing can wait a while, I guess !! Maybe later in the year !! I'll see how I get on...

Just staying with models tho' - and because I'm really a sad git, at heart !! The postman has just dropped off the latest 2 Star Trek models for me !! To explain.....

Every now & again, I like to collect stuff...... not for me, but for future generations of "The Clan" !! I've picked up 100 model trains - that sort of went along with my whole train thing, that I mentioned above + 20 or 30 small model planes & - so far - 3 larger models...... some War ships.... and, most recently, some miniature guitars. On top of all of the above.... I've picked up 15+ Star Trek models !! I really am sad !!

None of the above have been deliberately opened, so.... at some point, in the future - if my kids have kids - these models will be for them to sort out between them !!

Today, I've received a model Cardassian 'Galor Class' thingy & a thing called the 'U.S.S. Equinox'. I'm not really sure if such ships were actually used, in any of the Star Trek shows or films.... but, what the heck... it's all good fun !!

Right - I mentioned The Clan......

At the moment, I'm home alone !! B has gone up to see her Dad & from there, over to see her Aunt. She left quite early this morning, so she might be back anytime really. I must admit, I went back to sleep.... and only really surfaced, from my slumbers, at about
midday !! Oh well.....

ME is working this morning &  J... well, he is still over in Wales, doing his Uni course, so - apart from the cats, that just leaves me here, typing these words !! Oh, nevermind - I have the music to keep me company !!

Today, I'm playing 'Bust A Gut 3 - The Wheelchair Shuffle' on the iPod - thru' the docking station, that B gave me for Christmas. It's pretty good, to hear it, the way I meant it to be played !! To explain.....

When I recorded these 18 Cd's... I meant them to be played on "shuffle", so that the tracks would mingle into each other..... having the docking station allows that to happen !! It was Ok, putting 5 Cd's at a time, into my stereo system.... - but, that limited the "shuffle" factor, down to those 5 discs..... By using the iPod, I can shuffle all 18 discs and play them the way I imagined, when I recorded them !!

At them moment, I'm listening to Nightwish's 'Dead Boy's Poem' - which is a pretty good track, in it's own right, but following some Dream Theater & various other things, it really makes for some great listening !!

I must do another set of discs, at some point & put them, onto the Mini Egg, the same way as these tracks..... but, not yet - I need to get my brain together first !!

Ok - if you haven't done so, already - check out the video of Pussy Riot, getting beaten up in Puck-tin's Russian Olympics !! It's really bad..... and just goes to show, how we take freedom of speech for granted !! Check it out......

Right - I must away..... I have no plans for today, but... whatever I do, it's going to be taken slowly & that's a fact !! I thank you all for taking the time to log in & read my words.... until next time...

Pussy Riot & Puck-tin's Russia !!

Hi everybody !!

If you want to see "freedom of speech"  in action - check out the BBC's news web site. There you will see Mr Puck-tin's Russia at it's best !!

How brave you must feel, you asso's - beating & smashing your fists into the faces of the girls from Pussy Riot. Your folks must be very proud of you..... !!

Until next time....

Allman Brothers Band - Live 1992 !!

Well "Greetings" World's !!

I don't normally do much, on the computer today.... I mean, on a Sunday..... It's The Lord's Day & I sort of avoid the keyboard, as much as possible. But, today.... well, it is sooooo blue & bright outside, I decided to make a change & write a few words here !!

It's pushing towards 1pm & I'm here, with B and the cats.... Archie the kitten is going mad (as usual) trying to fit his ever growing body, into an A4 paper box.... you know, the sort of thing computer paper comes in !! I've tried to tell him, he's more of an A3 size now, but he seems happy rolling around the thing - getting himself upside down & twisted this way & that !! He might be 8 months old & turning into a nice cat - but, he still has "that kitten streak" in him !! Oh well.....

B is on a mission, this morning.... and is trying to sort thru' all of the various bills & statements we have here !! Seeing which ones are current & which ones to "file" !! She says she is worried about getting them sorted.... me, as long as we make various payments - as & when we can - there is no point in worrying about them all !! Oh well..... that's just me, I guess. Given the way things have gone, health wise, over the last 9 months - paying bills has gone very low on my personal views on life !!

That might sound an awful way of looking at things..... but, having nearly died last Summer, I really don't worry about other things sooooo much as perhaps I should !! Moving on & back to the family !!

ME is working a late shift today, so won't be home until way into the evening. I think she finishes about 10pm - but, as it's closer to home, she gets back here a lot earlier & quicker, than she used to, with her old job !! I'm guessing she has at least 30 minutes less driving time, once work finishes, so that's a bonus !!

We had an e-mail from J - I guess he wrote it last night, not really sure about that........ Anyhoo, B took the chance, to reply this morning. I'm usually the one who makes the "small-talk" - so, it was great that B had a go this morning !!

J seems to be doing well, his grades are all pretty good & I'm glad for him & proud of the way he is doing the whole Uni thing !! Ok - he's a grown lad now, but..... he is still my "Number 1 Son" !! I'm not sure if he still hates my guts, but..... that's up to him !! I'm too old & ugly to care too much, about what people think about me these days !!

Talking about what people think of me....... being a Sunday, we would normally have gone to Church today. But, as the last time I went, I was kept out of The Chapel - well, my get up & praise The Lord bit, has kind of left my body behind !!

I went to The Church, all ready to give a talk & say goodbye to people - as I was going into hospital, for surgery - but, my path was completely blocked, by The Bishop. I'm not really sure why he wanted to keep me out of The Chapel - well, deep down I do, but that's for another time - but, that was then & this is now !!

When I was in the hospital - as you can read in some of my posts, from last Summer - some of the Missionaries came to see me, and that was great !! Unfortunately....... well, things have moved on now !!

The Bishop has made no attempt to contact me.... so, I'm guessing I'm not high on his lists of people he wants to know !! Oh well..... it's their loss really & raises another thought....

When we were at Church - various members would stop going & we thought that it was just down to them & their wish not to attend. Now tho' - the shoe is on the other foot & I've seen a completely new side to The Church !! To me - it's not so much that people stopped going - it's more than that.... it's almost, in my case, that I was no longer welcome & was best staying away !!

The only contact, that I personally have had, with members of The Church, has been instigated by myself. Not one person has contacted me..... so, as far as I'm concerned, it's no longer something I can see happening. There was always, a kind of "us & them" - as far as the congregation went. I'm now very much on the "them" side of things now !!

Moving on... and finally, to the music of the moment !!

While I've been typing these words, I've been listening to the latest Allman Brothers live Cd set. It's called 'Play All Night: Live At The Beacon Theater 1992' and the tracks are:

CD 1

1) Statesboro Blues
2) You Don't Love Me
3) End Of The Line
4) Blue Sky
5) Nobody Knows
6) Low Down Dirty Mean
7) Seven Turns
8) Midnight Rider
9) Come On In My Kitchen

CD 2

1) Guitar Intro/Hoochie Coochie Man
2) Jessica
3) Get On With Your Life
4) In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed
5) Revival
6) Dreams
7) Whipping Post

It's a great set of tracks.... and altho' it reached me on Friday.... today has been the first chance I've had, to play it all the ways thru' !! Some of them (the tracks) seem to have been released before, on the 'An Evening With - First Set' which came out, way back in 1992 (I think !!)
.... but, the rest of them are, sort of, new to my old ears !!

Actually - I'm not sure if they were released before.... I can't honestly remember !! Oh well.... it's still a great set tho' !! To me - I have a little bit of an extra interest, in as much as it contains the 8 man line up of:

Gregg Allman
Dicky Betts
Jaimo
Butch Trucks
Warren Haynes
Allen Woody
Marc Quinones
Thom Doucette

Ok - I'm a sad old git, and I'm used to the band having various guests, join them on stage - but.... this is the only live album, that I have with all of these guys playing on it. I'm probably wrong & Thom Doucette will have played on some of their other stuff - go shoot me !! I can't keep up with what is happening today.... let alone in 1992 !!

It's kind of good, for me at least, to have some more stuff that came out on 'Shades Of two Worlds' !! I know I have some live tracks, from this album already - but, there is always room for more !!

Right - I've changed the music over to Gov't Mule's 'The Deep End Vol. 1 & 2'..... I've put the two discs in, on shuffle - just to mix things up a bit !! There is nothing like a bit of a "mix up" - especially when it's a warm Sunday afternoon !! Ho-hum......

Which leads on to what I'm going to do, for the rest of the day ?! I don't really know - I must sort out the mess, that is on my computer table !! I keep saying that.... but, it really is taking over now !! Not only is it a mess - I have no real idea what is under it all !! For all I know.... well.... I'll have a tidy up & see what comes out at the end of the day !! That's if I get around to it of course !!

Anyhoo - for now, I must away..... I thank you all for logging in & reading my words !! Drop me a comment, good or bad, anytime !! Thank's for taking the time, it's good to know you're all "out there"... until next time...

Bye Bye

Humble Pie & Therion.. Ho-hum

Greetings World's !!

How is your bit of the Universe treating you this fine hour ?! I'm doing pretty good this end - I'm home alone & the music is blasting away to itself, sooooo all is fine with me !!

It's been a bright & breezy day, here in the wilds of the South-West of England.... I've actually been outside twice, today... both times, it was really great, to get back.... especially with the heating on, to take the chill off of the bones !!

More of my trips, in a while - first the family !!

B has just left, to go back down to the Dr's surgery.... from there, she is going into town, to pick up some foody types of stuff, then back here. She was thinking about going in later - but, to me, it made sense to go right from the surgery, rather than make 2 trips of it !!

As for the rest of the clan..... ME is working today & J is over in Wales, doing his Uni course. As far as I know, they are both doing pretty good !! I'm sure they would let me know if they were in need of anything !! Maybe not... but, who knows !!

So, with me being left here, on my own... I'm blasting a bit of Gov't Mule thru' the Bose & it's pretty good too !!

It's disc 1 of the  2 Cd 'Deja Voodoo' set.... I might of written the tracks down already, I don't remember.... no brain cells in working order, I'm sorry to say !! The tracks on disc 1 are:

  1) Bad Man Walking
  2) About To Rage
  3) Perfect Shelter
  4) Little Toy Brain
  5) Slackjaw Jezebel
  6) Wine & Blood
  7) Lola Leave Your Light On
  8) Silent Scream
  9) No Celebration
10) Mr Man
11) My Separate Reality
12) New World Blues

I'm not sure what tracks are on disc 2 - there are none listed on the Cd insert.... but, I can tell you, it was recorded 'Live In Chicago' and is basically a bonus disc - as yet, I've only played it a couple of times, so... I honestly can't remember what is on the thing !! As I've said many times before - too many Cd's and too few brain cells !!

I was thinking about listing the tracks, on the 4 Cd set... 'Performance - Rockin' The Fillmore'. But - there are only 6 different tracks, spread across the whole box set !! So - those 6 tracks are:

1) Four Day Creep
2) I'm Ready
3) I Walk On Gilded Splinters
4) Hallelujah (I Love Her So)
5) Rollin' Stone
6) I Don't Need No Doctor

There are 4 shows in all, 2 per day. 'Rollin' Stone' was only played (according to this) in the evening shows. So - you pays your money & takes your choice !! It's a pretty good set tho' !! It will get plenty of plays, on the old Cd decks & that's for sure !!

I'm just wondering...do bands still do 2 shows a day ? I know it used to happen a lot, mainly before groups started doing longer shows...... by that, I mean more than an hour long, upwards to 2 hours plus & everything. Heck - if I saw a band, now - which I won't be - I would feel pretty ripped off, if a top band played for less than 2 hours, or there about !!

When I was doing the Uni thing - before getting too sick to attend - I did a talk, about how Cd's had introduced longer tracks, usually unavailable on the old Lp's. With the Lp's only lasting, at best, 25 minutes per side & Cd's up to 80 minutes... well, longer tracks - such as Zeppelin's bootleg versions of 'Dazed & Confused' clocking in at 40+ could be heard, in their entirety !!

Unfortunately, the tutor was really missing the point & thought that Cream's 'Wheels Of Fire' had tracks way too long, so Cd's didn't add anything !! Oh well..... what do you guys think ? Do Cd's add anything, as far as longer tracks are concerned ? Let me know.....

I've just had my Father-in-Law on the 'phone.... despite telling him, twice, that B was out, he still expected her to speak to him !! Oh well - I'll get her to call him, when she eventually gets home !!

I mentioned, that I had been out twice today..... well, first time was for my annual hair cut (only joking) & the second was for my blessed dressings change !! The latter I could of done with-out, but it has to be done !! Luckily, the wound seems to be closing up a bit now..... so, I'm not "sold" on the idea of needing further surgery, from the plastic guys, down in Exeter !!

I've left a message, with my Consultant, in Taunton... telling him what is going on, so maybe he'll see me first & decide for himself, if it's worth bothering with. I don't mind - as long as the pain goes away, that would be great !! Nevermind.....

Right, my plans for today.... none at all really... so, I will thank you for reading my words & taking the time to log in.... until next time....

Bye Bye

Humble Pie - 'Rockin' The Fillmore' !!

Hi again World's !!

It's a very wet & windy Wednesday, here in England.... the rain is blowing across the sea, in big downpours & it's not very nice at all !! I'm glad I'm staying in the house !!

I've got the TV on - playing quietly in the corner - and there are some really bad weather forecasts being put up on the screen..... high winds & all of the crap that goes along with it.

There is still a lot of "fall out" from what has happened, in the rest of the country..... to the East of here.... with the help that has flooded into those areas & how little was sent here, to the South-West !! I think people feel let down, by the response - or lack of it - over the last few months or so, compared to what is happening now !!

I likened it to Katrina, in the USA..... I know it was nothing like it, as far as damage & the numbers of people involved, but... it seemed to me & many others, that the only time the Government took any notice, was when the camera crews came & it was all over the "National News" !!

The funniest & dumbest thing.... that had to be when the Minister responsible came down here & was walking around in his shoes, thru' flooded areas !! He claimed his wellies were in the car.... but, most people think he just didn't bring any !!

It's Ok - as long as the people, in their big houses have got all of the help they need.... bugger the little people here in the levels area, after all, it's used to being flooded..... they won't mind !!

Ok.... enough of my moaning.....

I'm home alone, at the moment - except for Archie, who is asleep - just to my left - on the couch. I think the other 3 (cats) are here about someplace.... heck, why should they stay out, in the cold, when there are perfectly warm spots, in the house, to curl up on !!

The ladies of the house have just gone out shopping, for a few things, for ME & M's new house. I'm not exactly sure when they plan on moving in - that's not been decided yet.... but, ME is certainly getting stuff together for it !! Bless her.... she is sooooo up for this !!

So - with the ladies out & J over in Wales... I'm here on my own, listening to the 4 Cd box set, by Humble Pie of their live shows, from the 28th & 29th of May in 1971. There are 4 discs in total - recorded at both of the shows, that they did on each day, at the Fillmore East, in New York.

The tapes from these shows went on to be edited down, to the 2 Lp set 'Performance - Rockin' The Fillmore' way back when. I had the double album, then the single Cd.... now the 4 Cd set !! I guess it's a bit over-the -top, but.... I do like my "live" albums !! Besides, it's great to have all of the shows.... if nothing else, to get 4 different versions of 'I Walk On Gilded Splinters' !! Each one clocking in at around the 25 minute mark... well, good !!

I know that the Allman's do a great version of Johnny Jenkins copy of the track.... but, these slower versions have always been some of my favourite versions !!

Ok - things are going a bit weird this end - the power just went out !! I think I've got to the bottom of the problem, but - just in case it happens again and it screws with the computer, I'm going to sign off........

I'll get back to this, on another day.... until next time....

Bye Bye

Queensryche... Ho-hum...

Greetings World's !!

It's another Tuesday, here in a very wet & flooded South-West of England, it really has been a bad few weeks, for the people involved !!

I've not posted anything, for a few days or so - mainly as I've been a little poorly. For whatever reason, my "get up & go" has got up & left me behind. I was sat on the couch, about an hour ago... and quite honestly, I just felt like sitting there & letting the whole day go by !! I don't really know why I'm feeling like this - it's really dumb !! Oh well....

As I wrote above.... it's still really wet here about !! The "levels" are still completely underwater, the main railway link, between the Counties of Devon & Cornwall, is completely washed away &.... well, it's really a mess !!

A mess that has not been helped, with the very delayed response of the powers that be.... I'm talking about the Government & all of those in "head office" !! I - along with many many others, have not been impressed with the help that has gone "flying in" to the areas a way to the East of here - the areas where lots of people (and voters) live !! Honestly - we've had water all over the place, for months now and very little help has gone this way..... suddenly, the areas closer to London get flooded & everybody get's their wellies on, to appear good for the various members o the press !! It really stinks !!

On a slightly "funny" note... to see a bunch of RSPCA (I think) people, fully kitted out.... with all of their "life saving" gear - to rescue animals, well... that was really funny !! I know they are all doing a great job... helping to rescue Rover & Fido - but, honestly - were the crash helmets & all of the kit really necessary !! They had more gear on, than the people doing the other stuff !!

There are farmers, here on the levels, who have livestock in trouble - and the guys get all of their rescue stuff on, to help find some persons cat or dog, in a leafy suburbs.... Come on - get the help where it is really needed !!

On a very sad note - a guy was found dead, here in the village. We have an idea, who it might be, but.... as yet, it's not been officially given, as to what his name actually is. Unfortunately, he was found in the little brook, that runs down thru' the centre of the village.... our prayers & thoughts go out to his family.

Staying with family..... I'm home alone, for a while at least.

B has just gone out, to her Tuesday "weight-watchers" meeting.... ME is spending the day with her Sister-in-law (I guess !!) and J is still over in Wales, at Uni...... so, apart from the cats, that just leaves me, here in the nice warm house, typing this words & listening to Led
Zeppelin !!

It's actually a 4 Cd set.... which I put together, a few years ago.... It has 50 tracks on it and, if I remember rightly - was the top 50 Zeppelin tracks, as voted by members of the public, for some magazine or another !! I can't remember exactly which one it was - it was quite a few years ago now & my brain only goes back so far !!

I'm really pleased with it (the Cd's)... mainly as I thought the discs didn't play anymore !! I just have this vague memory of the blooming things skipping around & missing various tracks... oh well - I should of played them before, I guess !!

Despite feeling like crap, for the last few days... it's been a fantastic week for music & the collection !! I've had several new albums reach me and most of them have been really great to listen to - especially the 2 Cd set of 'Shout' by Gov't Mule !! It's been out, for quite a few months now... but, I only got around to getting a copy now !! The tracks are:

Cd 1

  1) World Boss
  2) No Reward
  3) Whisper Your Soul
  4) Captured
  5) Scared To Live
  6) Stoop So Low
  7) Forsaken Savior
  8) Done Got Wise
  9) When The World Gets Small
10) Funny Little Tragedy
11) Bring On The Music

Cd 2

  1) World Boss - with Ben Harper
  2) Funny Little Tragedy - with Elvis Costello
  3) Stoop So Low - with Dr John
  4) Captured - with Jim James
  5) Whisper In Your Soul - with Grace Potter
  6) Scared To Live - with Toots Hibbert
  7) No Reward - with Glen Hughes
  8) Bring On The Music - with Ty Taylor
  9) Forsaken Savior - with Dave Mathews
10) Done Got Wise - with Miles Kennedy
11) When The World Gets Small - Steve Winwood

I've been playing this, for most of the day & it really has got me on a hook !! It's been a great listen, it really has.... added to some other stuff - like Gregg Allman's first solo alum 'Laid Back' - 'Deja Voodoo... another Gov't Mule set... and, as it's in front of me (to remind me) AC/DC's soundtrack to 'Iron Man 2' !! I know - it's a bit heavier than a usually listen to, but - it's all music folks !!

I really have to spend an hour or so, sorting out me computer table... it's just full of junk & Cd's - some of which seem to be collecting dust, as they've been laying here so long !! No really... I've got to sort them out... and soon !! Oh well.... I'm enjoying listen to this old collection tho' - I really wish I had played it earlier !!

Just back to my health - or general lack of it.....

I've had a letter, to go down to Exeter (again) to see the second plastic surgeon, unfortunately, it's not until March 19th... or there about !! So... I will have to put up with this hole in my back a while longer, I guess !! Mind you - it might have healed up, on it's own by then, the way things are going !! I don't mind really... just as long the bloody pain would go away !! It is getting way beyond a joke now, it really has got too much to handle, at times !!

My local doctor is being pretty good & has increased my med's a little bit, to try & get thru' the worse of it, but.... I'm just getting very fed up with the whole thing really !! Nevermind, life goes on & on & on !!

Before it goes on too far....

I have another album, the ones I've been writing about, that have had some effect or another, on my life. This time it's Queenryche's 'The Warning'. To explain....

Back in 1984, my late Brother-in-Law was over from the islands and wanted to take in a couple of concerts, while he was here. I think, mainly as it was a long time ago... we went to Iron Maiden & Dio. I'm pretty certain we saw some others, but those two come to mind...

Anyways - the support band, for Dio was Queensryche... and to be honest, we were not that impressed by them !! I seem to remember that the singer - Geoff Tate - reminded us of an over animated, hard rock, version of Gary Glitter !! Not to matter....

A few weeks later, I was in one of the local pubs & either my Ex, or my good self, won a free album, thru' one of the local stores. These were the days, when you could still get fairly good albums, thru' the bigger stores - not so now.... nevermind.

We went looking & 'The Warning' was on one of the shelves & - as it was free - we picked it up.... not really expecting too much !! The tracks are:

1) Warning
2) En Force
3) Deliverance
4) No Sanctuary
5) N M 156
6) Take Hold Of The Flame
7) Before The Storm
8) Child Of Fire
9) Roads To Madness

I don't know exactly what it was about the album - but, over the years, it has become one of my favourites !! 'Take Hold Of The Flame' & 'Roads To Madness' have to be somewhere in my top 100 tracks of all time !! That may not sound like much - but we have thousands of tracks to choose from... so, 100 is pretty good really !!

I put the thing, onto cassette & played it to death while driving to & fro' work.... and it has lead to me buying nearly all of there releases to date !! I admit - I've not bought the latest offering.... but, there are so many albums out there & only so many hours in the day to listen to the music I already have !!

If you find it & have a spare 40 minutes to spare, give it a listen - it still holds up, as far as being a bit of rock...... I like it anyhoo !!

Right - I must be on my ways.... I have no plans at all, for how I'm spending the rest of the night - but, it's going to be nice & peaceful & that's for sure !! Thank you for logging in... until next time...

Head..... etc etc !!

Greetings...

If the main & only rail line, into London was washed away - the f***ing whole bloody army would be out there, fixing it !! But - it's not... it's just a little railway track, that just happens to be the only rail link, from Cornwall to... well, anywhere you would care to go & it's going to take at least "6 weeks" !!

I hope no one has died, in all of the floods...... but, whole communities are suffering !! Come on Mr Prime Minister - this is your "Katrina" - do something & pull your head out of your ass & get things done !!

Until next time...

Bye Bye

Humble Pie...pretty good !!

Greetings !!

It's another Wednesday, here in Old England.... and I'm in desperate need of a computer keyboard !! Last night, I was fussing around my table here & a pile of stuff slid (from a fair height) onto the board & smashed the back "foot".... the result being that I now have a wonky way of typing, to make up for it !! Not good really....

Anyhoo - that was last night... today, I'm sat here on my own - no, sorry... I'm not alone, as I have the kitten, Archie here with me, to keep me company !! Bless him - you would think he had had a hard night, the way he is sleeping !! As far as I know, he spent most of it, asleep on our bed !!

Nevermind... I'm here typing these words & that's about it really. B has gone into town - to pay some bills & pick up some "foody" types of things. ME is working an early today - which means, she should be home mid to late afternoon..... and J is still over in Wales, doing the Uni course. It's his birthday, tomorrow - so we'll no doubt give him a 'phone call !!

As for the music - well, I'm playing Humble Pie's 'Hot & Nasty - Rockin' The Winterland'. It was recorded back on May 6th 1973. The tracks are:

  1) Up Your Sleeves
  2) 4-Day Creep
  3) C'mon Everybody
  4) Honky Tonk Woman
  5) Stone Cold Fever
  6) I Believe To My Soul
  7) Thirty Days In The Hole
  8) (I'm A) Road Runner
  9) Hallelujah (I Love Her So)
10) I Don't Need No Doctor
11) Hot 'n' Nasty

The Cd came yesterday and this is my first chance to give it a good play thru'...... so far, so good. But (there is always one) I'm not that taken on Steve Marriott's vocals. He was a great rock singer, with a very good soulful voice !! He tends to over do it, just a little too much for me, on this recording. Oh well - we pays your money & you take your chances on what you get !!

At some point, in the next week or two, I'll have the Pie's 4 Cd set - from which, the 'Performance - Rocking The Fillmore' came from !! I'm looking forward to that !! Heck - a 4 Cd collection, recorded back in the early 70's - what is there not to look forward to & like !!

I'm being spoilt (again) with loads of music at the moment !! Great stuff....

Back to this morning... it was dressings time again !! Bummer.... !! If all goes well - starting next week - I will be only going, down to the surgery, twice a week... instead of 3 times !! That will be so good !! Instead of having myself pulled & pushed around, as the plasters come off.... well.... you get the picture !! I will be really glad, when this is all over & done with !!

Right, I was going to write about an album... one that has had an effect on my life, but - to be honest - I just want to get back to my warm bed & have a sleep.... so, I'll skip that bit, for today !!

So - with that in mind..... I thank you, as always, for logging in.... until next time...

Bye Bye

Within Temptation 'Hydra'... well good !!

Well - "Hello" again !!

It's a dry & cold day, here in the South-West of England..... B (My Wife & Dearest Friend) took me down to the Dr's this morning... and it was well chilly !!

Luckily, The surgery was very warm, plus I have a fantastic wool jumper thingy, which ME gave me for Christmas & that kept the worse of the cold out !! It's probably one of the best woolly's I've ever had - it's not itchy (like a lot for jumpers) and it's - as I've said, very warm !! Oh well...

As I've mentioned the two ladies of the household already - I will finish their little part of the family section, by say they have gone out shopping !! So - with J over in Wales, at Uni... that leaves me home alone !!

Actually, I'm not too alone - all 4 of the cats all in the house....... 3 of them in our bedroom !! I had to head back to bed, after the Dr's this morning & 2 of the boys slept a while, with me & the electric blanket !! When I actually got up - the kitten was on the floor cooling off.... after getting 2 shades too hot !!

So - as I say, I'm home alone.... and coming to terms with another day, with the "back from Hell" !! I kid you not - this old back of mine seems determined to give me grieve, each & every day !! Today has not been helped, by having the dressings changed - again !! Ok - I know it has to be done.... 3 times a week, but.... !!

Compared to the "good old days" of having it changed, in the hospital.... well, now a days, it's not too bad. It only takes about 10 to 15 minutes. When I was in the hospital and the wound was at it's worse - well, it took 90+ minutes one day, just to put the new stuff on & get it right !! That was 90 minutes of my life I will never get back again !!

There were 2 lovely TVN's who changed my dressings, on a regular basis, in the hospital..... and, honestly, I used to all but pass out, with the pain and everything !! One of the Ward Sisters did it one day - and the nurse helping her was concerned by my lack of "noise" - I wasn't talking or anything... to which the Sister told her "he goes into a bubble" !!

It was my only way to deal with it all.... just shut the pain & everything "out" and think of other things, while they got on with it !! It was better to be in a "bubble" - rather than thinking about what the nurses were doing behind me !!

One lovely day, when the TVN finished with me - she just lay be on my side & I went to sleep....."Ah - those were the days" !!

Thankfully.... they all seem to be getting further & further behind
me !! "Yippeee" Depending if the next Plastic Surgeon wants to do anything..... time will tell on that one. Bedside's, I've not even got a date to see him yet - if at all !!

Moving on to music..... today is a special day !!

This morning, by courier van, the latest Within Temptation album has reached me !! I feel another "Yippeee" coming on !!.... Why not - it's a very special day... mainly as the album has come in a box set, with a bonus disc + a second Bonus disc + a music book + a double Lp + (if you have the need of one) a guitar pick !! It really is a special box set indeed !!

As I type - I'm playing the second bonus disc... which is completely instrumental. There are two reasons for playing this Cd first - one, I wanted to just hear the music, to try to "get into that" and two... well, all the rest are well wrapped up & I'm a bit shy of spoiling the set !!

I know - what is the point of having it, if I'm not going to play it.... well, I will play it, just not at the moment !! It looks really good.... a shame to break into the plastic wrapper really !! Oh well.....

The tracks are:

  1) Let Us Burn
  2) Dangerous
  3) And We Run
  4) Paradise (What About Us ?)
  5) Edge Of The World
  6) Silver Moonlight
  7) Covered By Roses
  8) Dog Days
  9) Tell Me Why
10) Whole World Is Watching

The instrumental version sounds pretty good - it will be very interesting to listen to the vocals !! Oh - I see that Tarja (Ex Nightwish) is guesting on one of the tracks.... so that will be worth the time !!

Back onto albums, that have some effect om me, over the years. This one - well, it's not so much an album, more a bootleg tape !! To explain...

Way back when, the first Rush album came out - it had had a lot of good hings written & said about it, so I picked a copy. To be honest - a part from 'Finding My Way' and 'Working Man' - it didn't have a very lasting feel on my brain !! So - I skipped the next few albums..... I just didn't feel like buying them, based on the first one....

On the recommendation, of my ex-Brother In Law - I did pick up a cassette (remember when you could buy albums on them ?) of their live album 'All The World's A Stage' - but, if I played it at all, I don't remember.... it was just another album, to add the the collection !!

But, one Friday night, on the Tommy Vance show... well, he played a concert of them, at The Pink Pop Festival, in 1979... and, as I did a lot back then - I recorded it !! I could not believe it was the same band... they sounded sooooo much better !!

I think the tracks were:

1) Passage To Bangkok
2) Xanadu
3) The Trees
4) The Sphere
5) Closer To The Heart
6) La Villa Strangiato
7) 2112

Later - much later, they repeated the concert... with one extra track.... 'What You Doing'. To cut a very long story short - it completely changed my thoughts on Rush !! Since then, I've seen the band a few times & have picked up all (I think) of their albums !! They really have made a huge dent into my music collection.... even B likes them - so, to have your Wife like a band, that you like... well, that's always a bonus !!

Before leaving the music bit....

There is some bad news & some good news....

The "bad news" is, that Derek Trucks & Warren Haynes are leaving the Allman Brothers, at the end of this (their 45th year) together...... they both have their own side bands, so - I can see why !! But - the good news is... The Allman's are playing some concerts this year !!

Not only are they playing The Beacon in March... but, as I understand it, they are booked to do a festival (type thing) in September !! So - the live albums will be gracing our shelves, just as soon as they can be bought..... Check out 'Hittin' The Note' and you can see what is available !!

So - good news & bad news..... I'll miss their shows - and that's a fact.... but, I can see why !! On - ever on !!

There was a bit of a "dumb moment" this morning... well, as far as life goes, that is !! To explain..

We bought a new vacuum cleaner, either in late December, or early January... well, today, it broke down. For some reason, B 'phoned the wrong number & when I came down the stairs, she had payed out £15 on new parts !! That was a "dumb moment" - mainly as it has a one year warranty & all we had to do, was take it back & get a new one !! Nevermind - it was one of those things,  we have all had them !!

Right my plans for today... Well, I'm going to listen to this new album... a few more times at least... and do some washing up, left over from last night !! Oh - and I have the Superbowl to watch.... I put it on tape, so.... that's going to be interesting, as I don't know the score (as yet) !!

I must away... my thanks to all of you, for taking the time to read my words... until next time...

Woodstock.... again !! Ho-hum

Greetings !!

It's a very strange Saturday, here in England.... one minute, it's bright & sunny - the next the rain is bucketing down !! Very weird - but, for what it's worth, it's exactly what the weather stations foretasted.... oh well....

From where I sit, I can see the sea.... it's really bright & blue, one moment.. then it disappears in the rain, as it blows up the coastline !! All of this, is not helping those islands of people, on the Somerset Levels. It's meant to be a very high tide, tonight... so, it will mean another flood..... of course, you probably have no idea, what I'm going on about.... but, if you look on the BBC's News page - you can see exactly what I'm going on about !! Check it all out !!

I did part of my Uni course, about the Levels...... and how they (many many Moons ago) used to be completely flooded, with little "islands" of higher ground, here & there, where people set up little gatherings of one sort or another. All great stuff, if you like history & everything.....

Back to the now tho'

There are only two of us, at home, for most of the weekend.... just My Wife & Dearest Friend, B & my good self. J is over in West Wales and ME is out with M, for most of her 3 days away from work !! The two of them are coming over for a cooed tea, tomorrow..... which has got me thinking (dangerous - I know)....

With the two of them, buying their house, this could be one of the last times - while she is still living here - that they are here for a roast
tea !! Tho' - I'm certain they will be here, from time to time, when they need feeding up !!

Oh well.... life goes on !!

As it will, for a while yet...... so, onto music !!

I'm still working my ways thru' the tapes, which I won't bother writing all about (again) today !! But - at the moment, I've just heard Bon Jovi's version of 'The Boys Are Back In Town' & now, it's a mish mash of bands, dong 'Moby Dick' !! All of which have been taken from a compilation Cd.... which came out a long ways back, to "celebrate" a big Russian concert..... Gorky Park are just on, doing 'My Generation'.... anyways.... I think the Cd was called something like 'Stairway To Heaven/Highway To Hell'. It's here someplace, on one of the shelves.... I could dig it out, but..... I'm too lazy !! It's been a long while, since I last played it !!

Anyways.... moving on. I've been thinking about other albums, that have been - in one way or another - and, I guess, one of those has to be the 3 Lp set of 'Woodstock' !! The tracks were...

  1) I Had A Dream
  2) Going Up The Country
  3) Freedom
  4) Rock & Soul Music
  5) Coming Into Los Angeles
  6) At The Hop
  7) The Fish Cheer - I Feel Like I'm Fixing To Die Rag
  8) Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man
  9) Joe Hill
10) Suite: Judy Blue Eyes
11) Sea Of Madness
12) Wooden Ships
13) We're Not Gonna Take It
14) With A Little Help From My Friends
15) Soul Sacrifice
16) I'm Goin' Home
17) Volunteers
18) Medley: Dance To The Music/Music Love/I Wanna Take You Higher
19) Rainbows all Over Your Blues
20) Love March
21) Medley: Star Spangles Banner/Purple Haze/Instrumental Solo

I've not bothered with writing who did what & everything... it's just a fantastic piece of vinyl !! I bought it, sooooo many years ago, yet it still gets played regularly - along with it's follow up 2 Lp
'Woodstock 2'......

Add to that, I've bought the movie, in various forms + the 5 (I think) sets, from ..... Jefferson Airplane/Santana/Johnny Winter/Sly & The Family Stone & Janis Joplin !! I'm just a sad old fart really - so much so, that I actually recorded the whole movie, from DVD, onto Cd.... just to play in the car....

I really have been hooked by this album & the acts that were at Woodstock way back in 1969 !! You can tell how much it has got into my life, just by looking around the Cd collection.... Mountain -Hendrix -Ten Years After - Jefferson Airplane & on & on..... It's a great collection & a bit of music "history" really !! Oh well - another album, another day !!

The tape has just moved onto a track by Def Leppard...... who I saw once, way back in 1996 or there about - they were complete crap !! For a band who spent so much time, in the studio, getting their "sound" right... well, the PA on the night stunk !! It was sooooo loud, the who set fell into a complete horrid mess !! Yet - the previous night... a friend saw them, at the same place... and according to him, the sound was too quiet !! I guess, they got it wrong on both nights !!

Right, my plans for today..... Well, for a change, I actually have something in mind !! Once I finish with these words, I'm going to sit back & watch a film !! Nothing too exciting, but... a plan all the same !!

For now tho' I will be on my ways... until next time...

Bye Bye
