Hi everybody !!
How is your bit of the Universe treating you fine day.... this warm & bright Sunny day !! I'm rubbing salt into an open wound here - sorry.... I best explain !!
As mentioned, yesterday - B has gone off, for the day.... on a kind of "away from it all, day by the seaside".... which was arranged, by her carers group. The idea being, to give the carers a day away & let them a bit of fun.
Well - B has 'phoned me & has told me, they are in a pub...... sheltering from the rain !! See - that's what you get, for having a day away !! You miss all the Sun & stuff, that we have here..... !! Oh well.... moving on !!
I'm home alone !! Well - that was pretty obvious..... with B on her away day !! So, I was able to please myself, when I got out of bed (which, to be fair - I do everyday !) and, I'm making sure the neighbours know I'm awake - as the music is just below deafening !!
Back to the whole "bed" thing.... I only really woke up, because Archie - our 1 year old kitten - decided to get into bed, and sneak some warmth, off the electric blanket !! They're not dumb, cats.... they know where they are best off !! Sooooo - with Archie waking me up - I decided to get myself up...... I probably would of slept for ever, otherwise !!
As it is - I'm expecting 2 of the Missionaries..... I'm not sure what time they are going to show up.... but, I'm ready for them !! B had make a cake, which they can take away & eat at a later time, if they so wish !! Heck - you have to give them, some home cooking at some point - they are only 20 !!
Talking about the guys - tonight there is a programme on TV, about how Missionaries train & go out, into the "Wide World". It should be an interesting watch !! As a Latter Day Saint - even tho' I've fallen out with our Bishop & do not attend the services in Taunton any more..... I still enjoy watching TV thingy's about The Church !! Oh well - when I write again... I will let you know how good, or bad the thing was !!
Anyhoo
With B away & the guys both living in their own places.... I'm here & the music is kind of loud !! At the moment, I'm playing a fantastic album, simply called 'Hindu Love Gods'. It features Warren Zevon, Bill Berry, Peter Beck & Mike Mills. I don't really know, when it came out.... it was a goodly number of years ago & that's a fact !! The tracks are:
Side A
1) Walkin' Blues
2) Travelln' Riverside Blues
3) Raspberry Beret
4) Crosscut Saw
5) Junko Partner
Side B
1) Mannish Boy
2) Wang Dang Doodle
3) Battleship Chains
4) I'm A One Woman Man
5) Vigllante Man
Ok - some of the spellings are a bit weird - but, I've just copied them right off the album sleeve.... so, go shoot me !! It's a fantastic album... some great covers & a lot of fun, and that's for sure !! Check it out, if you ever find it !!
Going back - to last night.... but, staying with music... I dug out the DVD of the 1970 'Festival Express' concerts. To explain...
In 1970... a guy had an idea, instead of holding an open air festival - he organised for a bundle of groups, to get on this train & head East to West, across Canada - doing concerts, as they went along, a great idea & it's make a fantastic bit of film !!
The groups included, Mountain, The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Buddy Guy, The Band, Delaney & Bonny, The Flying Burrito Brothers & the fantastically named Mashmakhan !!
Anyhoo - one track, that caught my ear, was by the fantastic Tom Rush... 'Child's Song'. He didn't write it, but the lyrics are:
Goodbye momma goodbye to you too pa
Little sister you'll have to wait a while to come along
Goodbye to this house and all it's memories
We just got too old to say we're wrong
Got to make one last trip to the bedroom
Guess I'll have to leave some stuff behind
It's funny how the same old crooked pictures
Just don't seem the same tonight
There ain't no use in shedding lonely tears mamma
There ain't no use shouting at me pa
I can't live no longer with your fears mamma
I love you but that hasn't helped at all
Each of us must do the things that matter
All of us must see what we can see
It was long ago you must remember
You were once as young and scared as me
I don't know how hard it it is yet mamma
When you realize you're growing old
I know how hard it is not to be younger
I know you've tried to keep me from the cold
Thanks for you've done it may sound hollow
Thank you for the good times we've known
But I must find my own road now to follow
You all will be welcome in my home
Got my suitcases I must go now
I don't mind about the things you've said
I'm sorry Mom I don't know where I'm going
Remember little sister look ahead
Tomorrow I'll be in some other sunrise
Maybe I'll Have someone at my side
Mamma give your love back to your husband
Father you've have taught me well goodbye
Goodbye Mamma goodbye to you too pa
Ok - I know you can twist lyrics, to your own circumstances.... but, this one - this song - really hit home, for me at least, last night. Check out Tom Rush's album 'Tom Rush'.... + his other albums, as well..... you won't be disappointed !!
As I type, the music of the moment is the set that Mountain did, during the 'Festival Express' stop in Toronto. it's out as part of their Official Bootleg sets..... the tracks are:
1) Blood Of The Sun
2) Silver Paper
3) Hellhound On My Train
4) Guitar Solo - Dreams Of Milk & Honey
5) Stormy Monday
7) Mississippi Queen
I've always had a thing for music that Mountain put together !! Ever since I first heard them.... either at the Atlanta festival, in 1970 - or at Woodstock..... they really put a hook in me, they really did !!
I've had the front door open, all thru' typing these words...... and, I started to get that smell of new cut grass, coming into the house. Looking out the window - it has started to rain - so, all the cut lawns are starting to smell really "nice" !! Oh well.... I must go...
As always, thank you for logging in & reading my words. My thank's to Tom Rush & for the guy who wrote 'Child's Song'....... and to all of you guys, who have kept the music going for me, all of the years, that I've been listening.... until next time...
Bye Bye
