Hi....
I've just found out, that one of the greatest guitarist.... well, to my way of thinking, at least.... in the World, has died.
Alvin Lee, who guitar work on sooooo many recordings, stands head & shoulders above many others, from the 60's & onwards. His performance at Woodstock - captured on the film of the same name.... well, if you haven't seen it... go & get yourself a copy !! For me - it is/was one of the highlights of the whole festival.
Now - I love music & as I type, I'm listening to the Allman's 2012 concerts..... but, I will always remember the first time I heard the 'Woodstock' 3 Lp soundtrack albums, in 1970.... well, Ten Years After's performance was fantastic !! I have bought many of their albums since that first hearing..... from 'Ten Years After'.... all the ways thru'. Too many albums to go thru'.... but all, in their own ways, very, very good !!
A friend of mine, many years ago.... well, he said Ten Years After had one thing going for them...... Alvin Lee & his guitar solo's - I can't argue with that. Check out any of their 'live' albums... you will not be disappointed !!
I will only say one more thing - again, from 'Woodstock'........ "it's close enough for jazz" !! RIP Mr Lee.
... until next time.....
Bye Bye
